ProHVM Hyper-V Manager

A tool for managing Microsoft Hyper-V servers and virtual machines — straight from Windows, even on Core installations where the built-in Hyper-V Manager isn't available.

Heads up: ProHVM is a legacy project and is no longer under active development. The full product is now free, even for commercial use. To unlock the Professional edition features you need a serial number — grab it further down on this page.
Features

Everything you need in one console

ProHVM packs all the information into a single main window — server tree on top, details below — so you can run the day-to-day work in just a few clicks.

Create & manage VMs

Wizard for new virtual machines, manage hardware (CPU, memory, VHD/VHDX, NICs, BIOS), snapshots, ISO mounting and more.

Console access via cVM

Connect to the VM console — even on the free Microsoft Hyper-V Server (Core). cVM supports command-line switches for shortcuts and autostart.

Monitoring

Live info on CPU, memory, disks and the event log — for both the host and each individual VM. Filter event logs straight from the client.

Multi-host & cross-domain

Connect to multiple Hyper-V servers simultaneously — across domains and workgroups. Manage 2008 R2 through 2022 (and likely newer, untested) from one console.

Cluster support

Manage clustered VMs: quick & live migration, take resources on/offline, add and remove VMs from the cluster.

Migration & Replica

Import/export of VMs, storage migration, Hyper-V Share Nothing migration and Hyper-V Replica — straight from the GUI.

Server

Complete server administration

The Server Settings dialog gathers it all in one place — no need to switch tools.

  • Connection settings & license info per host
  • Default paths for VM configurations and VHD files
  • Event log reader with filters, refresh interval and log selection
  • Virtual switches: External, Internal & Private
  • Disk info and remote file browser with copy/paste/delete
  • Live migration and Replication settings
  • Built-in remote PowerShell console
VM

Full control over each VM

Right-click a virtual machine for quick actions. The details panel shows a preview, a CPU graph, notes and hardware.

  • Start, Shutdown OS, Power off, Pause, Suspend, Reset
  • Snapshots — create, apply, remove, rename
  • Connect to the console (or via cVM with SHIFT+click)
  • Attach ISO files straight from the popup menu
  • Edit hardware: BIOS, CPU count, memory, VHD/VHDX, NICs
  • Smart sizing & full-screen in the console window
  • Live preview of the VM screen in the details panel
cVM

The standalone VM-connection tool

cVM can be launched from ProHVM or directly from a command prompt. Ideal for shortcuts, autostart or registry-driven connections.

Switches

  • Host — host or computer to connect to
  • Username / Password — credentials for the connection
  • port — e.g. 3389 (RDP) or 2179 (VM)
  • VMName — the GUID of the VM
  • ElementName — friendly name (adds an extra Hyper-V lookup)
  • FullScreen, PinConnectionBar, StartVM

Examples

cVM.exe Host="192.168.1.103"
        Username="Administrator"
        Password="Password"

cVM.exe Host="."
        VMName="13DFE6AD-…-FACBB41D702"
        FullScreen=1

Tip: open cVM.exe, fill in the parameters and copy the CMD line field at the bottom of the connection dialog.
